Dropped as a tease at The Game Awards was that Hideki Kamiya is back at Capcom, he had reformed his former studio named Clover--now Clovers--and is working on a sequel to 2006's beloved action-adventure game, Okami. Kamiya will be joined by other staff who worked on the original game, though it may be a while off, as there's no release ETA nor were platforms announced.

FromSoftware had a show-stopping announcement to make at The Game Awards. Elden Ring is getting a new standalone adventure in the form of Elden Ring: Nightreign. It'll be a new experience, putting a focus on co-op (or solo) PvE gameplay, where you choose from one of eight characters that each have their own abilities. It'll play like a roguelike, where after losing, players will be able to upgrade themselves in order to get further. Nightreign will be out sometime next year, for both current and last generation consoles, and PC.

The PlayStation Portable just turned 20 years old. Alarming as that may be to hear, it means the PSP is "retro", and thus features some rather aged hardware. Broken screens, worn out batteries, stuck buttons; all of these issues plague used PSPs, rendering them unusable. However, a new project from two modders has found a new way to repurpose otherwise useless PSP units. Creatively named the PSP Placeable, it's a kit that takes PSP-2000 and PSP-3000 systems and turns them into a home console. The project is open source, and there's detailed documentation that explains how to dissemble PSPs and attach them to the custom-made Bluetooth board and 3D-printed shell, or alternatively, fully-made PSP Placeables are sold through their RetroModWorks website. Designed to look like a mini PlayStation 2, the Placeable plays original UMDs with the pop-up tray, connects to Bluetooth controllers, and has an AV to HDMI converter.

Crush 40 is known for their involvement in composing iconic and beloved vocal soundtracks for the Sonic franchise--especially so for Sonic Adventure 2. However, according to a recent legal filing, it looks like Sega of America has potentially missed out on paying royalties to Crush 40 for using their music. The lead vocalist of the band, Jonny Gioeli, is taking Sega to court, seeking compensation and to definitively rule who has ownership over Sonic Adventure 2's title song, Live and Learn.

Sony's advancing pursuit of Kadokawa Corporation continues, with its latest move. After expressing interest in wanting to buy Kadokawa, a large entertainment company that owns many publishing, anime, and gaming subsidiaries, including Dark Souls and Elden Ring developer FromSoftware, Sony has further invested in Kadokawa Corporation, making them the largest shareholder in the company, and thus owning 10% of it, compared to the second-largest shareholder at 6%, Tencent. Sony's amount of investment is valued at around $320 million, with the goal of the two companies stated to be working together to adapt Kadokawa's intellectual propoerties into live-action TV and movies, co-produce new anime, and expand the publishing capabilities of Kadokawa's gaming division. This is not an acquisition, though signs certainly seem to point towards such in the future.

A reveal trailer for Super Mario Odyssey - A Galaxy Story dropped, announcing a massive project that aims to fit all of Super Mario Galaxy's galaxies into Super Mario Odyssey, with 400 new moons to collect, fully outfitted with Galaxy's gravity physics and Odyssey's platforming and engine improvements.
