A young nature enthusiast is in the running to win a cash prize and wildlife experience with conservationist and TV show host Jeff Corwin.

A sixth grader from Turlock and his story about a raindrop was selected to be part of the 2025-26 California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom’s “Imagine this…” book collection.

Denair High School Class of 2026 valedictorian Emma Sarmiento said that her commencement speech will focus on how “we’ve developed and transformed from being kids into young adults with knowledge and memories and experiences that will help us in the future.”

There may be still be a few more days of school left in the academic year, but the City of Turlock is kicking off the summer season with a splash on Saturday.
