As we understand each other's fears and desires, compromise is a way to find solutions without anyone experiencing defeat.

It seems that any cost-cutting proposal we're hearing about today involves cutting supports to the people who need them most.

We have to wonder about people whose powers and comforts permit them to gaze comfortably on the fear and pain of others. They have, I suppose, already decided that people are no damn good, and assume that pain and fear may improve the manners of the poor. Animals from diverse species can learn to love each other. But we weren't waiting for the latest scientific data to come in. We already knew it.
