The Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association awarded the Student Leadership Award to the Donna Wernecke Elementary student council for their contribution and dedication to the school.

The Texas Education Agency’s accountability system has been in legal limbo for almost a year, which means school districts throughout the state are about to start their second school year without a definitive state rating of their academic performance. However, districts can still gauge their performance based on STAAR test data to determine an unofficial rating.

Sharyland ISD made the top 30 in two lists recognizing outstanding athletic and academic programs in Texas for the 2023-24 school year.

Mission talks drought, water conservation

Mission City Council approved the purchase of a computer-aided dispatch (CAD) for the fire department and emergency medical services program. The new program will cost the city an estimated $100,000 for integration and $7,000 monthly.

Mission’s Lions Park is in the final weeks of construction before the city can reopen it to the public with its new all-inclusive features.

Mission residents will have another opportunity to register and microchip their pets for free in September.
