LOCKINGTON — Despite the brisk Fall weather, a good crowd attended the open house and tour of Lockington Dam Wednesday morning. Miami Conservancy District General Manager MaryLynn Lodor served as master of ceremonies for the brief program, which included remarks from Board Member Mark Rentschler and Miami Conservancy District’s Chief Engineer Don O’Connor.

A Port Jefferson firefighter sprays down a fire on Friday in a recently harvested cornfield at the intersection of Knoop-Johnston Road and Gearhart Road. The fire was reported around 2:40 p.m.. Strong winds pushed the fire quickly across the farm field burning up hundreds of square feet. The wind continuously reignited the fire requiring the firefighters to make multiple passes to put out the flareups.

The mobility aide called “Glide” was shown at the Shelby County Board of Developmental Disabilities by cofounders of the company Glidance on Thursday. The Shelby County Board of Developmental Disabilities has preordered a Glide machine that will be added to its assistive technology library when it arrives in Sept. of 2025. When the Glide is finished it will be able to map out buildings it has been in and share that information through the internet cloud with other people’s Glides. Besides just helping users avoid objects, the Glide will be able to recognize certain objects, such as hotel desks, and take users to them.

Howard’s Tire Service located at 129 N W Ave. has closed after over 50 years, the business announced on Facebook. The business’s old building has been purchased by the City of Sidney. What the city will do with the property is not yet known.

The Charitable Foundation of Shelby County helps individuals set up scholarships and other forms of charitable funds. The event was held on Thursday with the Sidney-Shelby County of Commerce. The new office space is one floor up from the Foundation’s old one.
