Just because someone is named as a defendant in a lawsuit, it doesn’t mean they did anything wrong, despite appearances.

A standing-room-only crowd of more than 40 people showed up last Monday for the weekly meeting of the Sequoyah County Commissioners. Many were in attendance to witness the commissioners proclaim October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, while others were there for an executive session “to discuss the employment, hiring, appointment, promotion, demotion, disciplining or resignation of the Sequoyah County Assessor.”

Grants totaling more than $158 million have been approved by the Oklahoma Broadband Governing Board to bring reliable and affordable high-speed internet service to some 28,000 homes and businesses.

Mike Mouzakis, a member of Carnie Welch American Legion Post 27 and a former commander, was recently awarded a plaque by the Paralyzed Veterans of America for his work with the organization in Oklahoma. Mouzakis has helped raise awareness for the group, and helped at their fishing tournaments. Congratulation to Mouzakis for earning this award and his efforts to assist veterans.

On Thursday evening, members of the Muldrow Town Council gathered to sign a proclamation, declaring October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. “It is exciting to see the support shown for domestic violence victims/survivors,” Cindy Smith, Sequoyah County Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault investigator, said. “To Mayor Catherine Jones (front, center), Police Chief Tim Keith, the town council, Muldrow Police Department and the citizens of Muldrow, we thank you! Let it be known domestic violence will not be tolerated.”

October 24 Need a Cherokee Nation photo ID? Cherokee Nation Tribal Registration will be set up from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Greenwood Cultural Center in Tulsa to create photo IDs for Cherokee citizens.
