Jesse Branch died the day before Thanksgiving as a result of a two-vehicle crash. Branch was a 17-year veteran with the Red Lake Nation Department of Public Safety.

Authorities said they were called to the scene after the man consumed illicit drugs and over-the-counter medication. When an ambulance arrived he fled into a wooded area.

A sample taken from a wild adult buck during the opening weekend of this year’s firearms season tested positive for chronic wasting disease. The always fatal condition has never been detected in that area of the state.

Kim Pleticha, public affairs director with MJB, said the change is in response to an increase in remote hearings.

Doug Franke, DNR area wildlife supervisor, said the survey will be conducted using a fixed-wing aircraft traveling at about 80 mph, approximately 300 feet off the ground.
