Having picked up a meter-full of horror awards on release in 2024, Self Driver manoeuvres onto digital to show everyone what all the fuss was about. It’s easy to see why this Canadian thriller went down well on the genre festival circuit. In essence, it’s a simple concept, riding on contemporary tech-anxiety, with one eye constantly on satire, and filmed in a super lean way that turns its low-fi approach into a strength.

Live from London, Saturday Night Live UK is back for its sixth episode. This week, Sex Education and The White Lotus star Aimee Lou Wood plays host, finally getting her chance to grace the SNL stage a year after the American show mocked her appearance in one of last year’s major showbiz talking points. Getting the controversy out of the way, Wood wiped the slate clean in a pre-show skit uploaded to YouTube, allowing her to go into her hosting duties with a fresh start.

Last Sunday, FILMHOUNDS attended the 2026 BAFTA TV Awards with P&O Cruises in London. As winners left the stage, statuettes in hand, we managed to speak to some of the stars.

Before Cold Storage slunk onto cinema screens in the awkward mid-award season, its trailer had already bamboozled audiences. In the promos, B-movie stylings mashed with star faces as gore-soaked horror was laced with quips. Having released almost all of Buster Keaton ’s filmography on various Blu-ray boxsets, Eureka Entertainment are marking the centenary of his masterpiece, The General, with this beautiful UHD release. Co-directed with Clyde Bruckman, this remains not only one of the defining works of silent cinema, but arguably the first true action-comedy: a perfect fusion of gags, spectacle and pathos that still feels startlingly modern a century later.

First-time fiction director Dan Asma piles found footage onto found footage in Tribe. He opens with an ominous Cuyamaca poem before dragging a retired university teacher (played by Asma) deep into a digitally and physically claustrophobic cosmic horror. One that’s likely to stir a bit of nostalgia for when found footage felt fresh.

It is no real surprise that the press lambasted Frankenstein and The Monster From Hell on release. The Exorcist had upturned horror cinema a few months before its 1974 release, and just three years later, both Frankenstein and Creature, Peter Cushing and David Prowse, would play the big bads in Star Wars. Could there be a greater sign that Hammer was fast being consigned to the past?
