FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - A First Alert Weather Day has been issued for Wednesday, June 17th due to the potential for strong to severe storms, including heavy rain, large hail, high wind, and isolated tornadoes. The main risk timeframe is from about 2p to 11p.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The severe risk has once again been significantly trimmed across the area for the 7-11p timeframe. Now, only a sliver of the area is under a Level 3/5 enhanced severe risk. The majority of the area is under a Level 2/5 slight risk.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Wind gusts occasionally exceeded 30 mph this afternoon in the wake of a cold front that fortunately had little else to show for it. Temperatures also remained seasonably cool, staying largely in the low to mid 70s.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Sunday was not only Father’s Day, it was the first day of summer! It didn’t necessarily look like a classic summer day, though, with thick cloud cover around much of the day.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - An approaching cold front will spread scattered showers, and a few embedded thunderstorms, across Northeast Indiana and Northwest Ohio through the evening and early night. Severe weather chances are low, but there is always the possibility of a rogue, misbehaved storm that produces 50 mph+ wind gusts and small hail, so as the saying goes: When thunder roars, head indoors!

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The cold front responsible for occasional downpours/thunderstorms this afternoon has moved into Ohio, meaning a quiet and partly cloudy night is in store with lows near 60º.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Highs in the 90s, heat index values over 100º - that pretty much sums up the rest of the week! The difference between Monday, and Tuesday through Thursday, will primarily be a matter of a few degrees, with mid 90s more likely than low 90s. By Friday, high temperatures will “drop” closer to 90º.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Heat index values ranged from 100-110º today! This is the absolute best/worst time of year for a heatwave because the sun angle is highest and the Gulf moisture is most available.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - First Alert Weather Days continue through Friday due to the threat of extreme heat. Temperatures continue to peak near the mid 90’s through the rest of the week, with heat indices between 105°-110° possible. Our nights remain muggy with low temps in the 70’s.
