The updated list of invitees for the ninth running of the $3 million, Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational, which will be run January 25, includes 12 on the primary list and 9 reserves. The list includes seven horses with more than $1 million in career earnings and seven that have at least one victory in a Grade 1 or Group 1 race.
Saturday’s Grade 3, $250,000 Lecomte is the second of four stops on the Fair Grounds road to the 2025 Kentucky Derby. As an official Derby prep race, 20-10-6-4-2 qualifying points are available to the top five eligible finishers. In this field of 14 there are five 3-year-olds who already have earned Derby points.

Coal Battle became a two-time winner on the Derby trail when he won the Smarty Jones. That increased his point total to 20, which puts him in third-place on the Derby leaderboard.
