NEW YORK -- Thursday's lower humidity was a nice reprieve from the oppressive air that has been in place for most of the week, but it won't last long as a tropical airmass will move back into the region for the coming days.

NEW YORK -- New York City is expected to have its third heat wave of the year next week. It could begin Sunday, when temperatures could reach the low and mid 90s.

New York's weather calls for a cloudy day Monday, with rising humidity and increasing shower chances.

Morning showers will lead to partly sunny skies by the early afternoon hours, which in turn may ignite a round of thunderstorms for the late afternoon evening hours.

Hurricane Ernesto's path is after earlier in the week. The storm is expected to bring high rip current risks to New York and New Jersey beaches this weekend.

Saturday Today, mostly cloudy skies will remain in place with a few light showers possible. Humidity will continue to rise and highs will only top out in the lower 80s.

The upward trend in humidity levels continues into Monday as highs reach the mid to upper 80s. By the afternoon and evening hours, a chance of showers and storms returns. A few of the storms may be severe, with areas to the north and east of the city seeing the greatest chance. The greatest hazards associated with these storms would be hail and damaging winds.

Our beautiful weekend continues Sunday with no weather worries. After some early fog and low clouds in spots, expect more sunshine with highs topping out right around 80 degrees.
