The Louisiana Legislature passed a package of budget bills Friday that will give pay raises to firefighters, judges and corrections officers, and

The budget includes pay raises for firefighters, judges and prison guards. It does not include raises for teachers, who stand to lose $2,000 after receiving temporary stipends for several years. Top governmental officials have vowed to find money to pay for the raises after the session ends.

The bill became controversial when a last-minute amendment took money away from the Orleans Parish district attorney’s office.
