Two arrested after fight at North Greenbush Stewart's Two people were arrested after a fight at Stewart's Shops in North Greenbush. Police said that one person allegedly threatened another person with a knife in the parking lot. An initial report that was somebody had been stabbed, but that was not the case. The investigation determined that three people were traveling together when they stopped at the convenience store on Main Avenue. An argument broke out between two of them. There were conflicting accounts as to who had displayed the knife, police said. Two people arrested are: Jeffrey Lillis, 31, of North Greenbush; and Roshawn Sullivan 50, of Watervliet. They were charged with one count of criminal use of drug paraphernalia and two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance. Police found the third person at a nearby business, with the help of people who recognized a description of him over the police scanner. He had been asleep in the back street of the car during the fight, according to police. He was released without charges. They are due in North Greenbush Town Court at a later date. Man gets prison time for Fatal shooting in Cohoes A South Carolina man was sentenced on Tuesday to up to 15 years in prison for fatally shooting a Cohoes man in 2023. Nalik Sealy, 26, had pleaded previously guilty to causing the death of Shieer Leggett. This stemmed from a fight that happened on Aug. 11, 2023 outside of a convenience store on Main Street. Dontie Mitchell had sparked a confrontation with Sealy. During a gunfight, a bullet from Sealy's gun struck and killed his friend Leggett, according to the Albany County District Attorney's Office. Mitchell was acquitted last month of attempted murder, but convicted of weapons possession. Sealy was sentenced to 5 to 15 years on the manslaughter charge and 12 years on a criminal possession of a weapon charge. They two sentences run consecutively for a maximum of 15 years in prison.

FBI releases name of border agent killed in Vermont traffic stop The FBI has released the name of a U.S. Border Patrol agent killed in Vermont during a traffic stop. It happened around 3:15 p.m. on Monday. Agent David “Chris” Maland stopped a vehicle on Interstate 91 in the town of Coventry. During the traffic stop, there was an exchange of gunfire, police said. Maland was struck. He later died from his injuries. Also, one of the occupants of the vehicle and another one was injured and is being treated at the hospital, according to the FBI. The Department of Homeland Security has confirmed that the suspect who died is a German national on a current visa. Malan is a U.S. Air Force veteran. The investigation is ongoing.

Tractor-trailers crash causes delay in Troy Several tractor-trailers crashed on a busy road in Troy. It happened on Northern Drive and Oakwood Avenue. No one was hurt but it snarled traffic, Troy Police said. The Department of Transportation is assisting in the investigation.

Firefighters respond to apartment kitchen fire in Watervliet. Firefighters responded to a fire in Watervliet on Tuesday night. It happened at the Fenimore Trace Apartments on Eastview Drive. Fire officials say it started in the kitchen. They did not believe there were any injuries.

Fire officials confirmed that a fire in an apartment complex in Watervliet was caused by a cooking mishap. Watervliet firefighters received a report around 5:45 p.m. of a fire at the Highland Club Apartments at 17 Eastview Drive. They were on scene in four minutes. The fire was under control in about 20 minutes. However, firefighters remained at the scene for a couple more hours to check on whether the fire had extended to the other parts of the three-story building and clearing out smoke.

Official: Fire caused by discarded fireplace ashes The fire that heavily damage a house in Schodack on Tuesday was caused by discarded fireplace ashes. The fire broke out at around 9:30 a.m. 2041 Brookview Road. Ashes placed into a metal garbage can on the back deck were not fully extinguished, according to Jay Wilson, director of the Rensselaer County Bureau of Public Safety. Wilson said it is a reminder to be careful with fires. “We've probably had a half-a dozen fires or more in the county, where people didn't properly discard of the ashes from their fireplace, or let them cool or wet them down. And it's unfortunate,” he said. Two dogs died in the fire. A GoFundMe has been started to help the family rebuild.

Albany man gets up to 17 years in prison for stealing guns, breaking into home An Albany was sentenced to up to 17 years in prison after admitting to burglary charges. Willie Moses, 49, pleaded guilty in Albany County Court on Wednesday to criminal possession of a weapon. This satisfies two different cases. Moses was arrested in November after breaking into two different gun stores on Central Avenue, including New York Shooter Supply in Colonie and stealing more than five guns, according to the Albany County District Attorney's Office. He also was charged in a burglary of a residence.

Police: Montgomery County man admits to selling meth A Montgomery County man has admitted to distributing methamphetamine. Joseph Mitchell, 38, of Nelliston, admitted in U.S. District Court that he worked with another person to distribute more than 350 grams of methamphetamine and possession of a firearm as a felon, the U.S. Attorney's Office said. A search of his home on Sept. 5 found two rifles and one shotgun. Mitchell was not allowed to have firearms because of a previous conviction for robbery and narcotics possession, according to prosecutors.
