A group of veterans employed by Wigan Council are pictured setting off on the 80 for 80 Challenge. It is an 80-mile walk commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day, setting off from Wigan Town Hall to walk the distance over four days, arriving at the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas, Staffordshire, leading up to Remembrance Day, and raising funds for the Royal British Legion in the process.

Remembrance Sunday in Wigan – The Mayor of Wigan and other dignitaries joined the parade with servicemen and women, veterans and representatives of various organisations in the Wigan borough, from Wigan Town Hall to Wigan War Memorial for a service where wreaths were laid in All Saints Gardens outside Wigan Parish Church.
We are looking back half a century here with pictures taken in and out of the classroom at Britannia Bridge School at Ince and Pemberton Secondary Girls' School.
