A strong cold front is expected to sweep across the region late in the day Saturday, bringing the coldest air of this fall by far to much of North and Central Texas overnight into Sunday morning. Gusty north winds are expected behind the cold front, with gusts as high as 35 mph on Sunday.

Sunny skies and warm temperatures will continue through the rest of the week with highs in the 60s and 70s. A weak front tomorrow will force southwest winds to shift to the north, but will not have much impact on temperatures.

Storm chances will be highest over the weekend as a slow-moving upper disturbance spreads through the Southern Plains. The severe weather threat remains low, though stronger storms could produce gusty winds, frequent lightning, small hail, and heavy rain. The flooding threat will increase in areas that observe training storms.

Summertime heat continues this week with highs in the 90s and heat index values up to 105 both today and Wednesday. There are low chances (10%) for isolated showers and thunderstorms in parts of Central Texas each afternoon, but most areas will stay rain-free.

Heat and humidity will combine to produce afternoon heat index values between 99 and 105 degrees on Saturday. Anyone spending extended time outdoors should take precautions to avoid heat-related illness by staying hydrated, taking frequent breaks, and limiting strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day.
