District officials say at least five of 10 recent medical incidents involving students with overdose symptoms were linked to fentanyl, a synthetic opioid that’s the subject of state warnings this month.

Sami Graham, who was rejected by the city’s Assembly to run the library, formally requested that the library reconsider who is allowed to access the book “Let’s Talk About It,” by Erika Moen and Matthew Nolan.

The district has removed books that were “clearly inappropriate” from school library shelves, a spokesperson said. Officials have refused to idenfity which books or how many.

“I can’t believe it. I can’t believe it,” okpik said by phone Monday. “I feel like a thousand marmots running in the tundra — playing in the tussocks and hummocks and taiga and tundra.”

The changes approved by the school board Tuesday mean that elementary school students will begin earlier while middle and high schoolers will start later.

Allen Wardlaw had initially been put on administrative leave in April.

Last year, there were challenges clearing the parking lot and material left behind, a district spokesperson said.

Graduates walked across the stage to claim diplomas clothed in flags, headdresses, fur, beads and other elements important to their diverse heritages.
