A project to bring a novel solar project to generate electricity on cattle pasture land in Bear Valley has been put on indefinite hold as the cost to bring the power to an electric provider in Idaho has made the project unfeasible, according to the project's land owner.Last year, a Grant County rancher and the Portland-based Rute Foundation Systems partnered for the project that would allow large-scale solar energy production and cattle ranching on the same land for the first time in Oregon.The dual-use solar project is planned for about 8 acres on the sprawling Southworth Brothers Ranch in Bear Valley owned by Jack Southworth along Highway 395, south of John Day and just north of Seneca. Idaho Power would have been a buyer of the power generated, Southworth said.
