When “Innovation” Coincides With Layoffs: In April alone, more than one in four U.S. layoffs were explicitly attributed to AI—making it the single largest cited cause of job cuts for the second month in a row. At the same time, corporate earnings calls continue to celebrate “AI transformation,” “efficiency gains,” and “expanded margins” as if they were pure upside. For many white‑collar workers, that gap between the public narrative and the internal reality is no longer theoretical; it is a line item.
