Beauty and the Beast- A Great Christmas Treasure – Currently Running

Rodney, or “Hot Rod of the Slopes” as he was sometimes known as, was eager for the snow to come to western Washington. It was his time to shine. He was no longer “the” king of the slopes from the University of Washington, but there were many people, both women and men who wanted to learn more about the slopes... and Rodney was still a regular during the snow season at Snoqualmie Summit and happy to teach those who had some skills and money.

I met Phyllis at a coffee shop. She was crying. I could have just ignored her or I could have turned around and walked away like most people. Instead, I sat down at her table and said, “Tough day?”. She looked at me and tried to shrug off the need to have a stranger care about an old woman.

If you are a parent and have young children around, you know how easy it is for a small child to wander away and disappear from sight. Sometimes it’s for minutes or hours depending of a number of things. My wife and I experienced the pain of loss several years ago. Our daughter, Judith, then four years old, was running around the house, underfoot and getting in the way; you know how it is.

Ticket holders for the Olympia production were treated to a set of four carolers dressed in costumes from 1843, the year A Christmas Carol was written. Peg and I had seats in different rows. By the time the Carolers finished singing it looked like every seat in the house was taken.

Jane was in love, well... perhaps not love, but it might just work its way up to love if she behaved herself. She was enjoying junior college. She had not yet been accepted for the Women’s Fast Pitch team in San Diego, but was a killer at some of the local teams here in Washington State. She had balls for the game. Joey was a regular baseball player and tended to pooh-pooh Jane and her desire to play fast-pitch, while he played ball at Tacoma Community College.

Adele sat up on the bed looking out the large glass window from Tacoma General Hospital. She could see the birds, the trees, and even as far as Vashon Island, but in her hospital bed she saw a reflection of a bald head and hardly any hair, just a mirror to stare at the lack thereof.

For my birthday and Christmas, my wife had bought me a High Power 12×32 Binoculars with Camera and LCD Screen. Perfect for Bird Watching, but I’m not much into birds. She died a week before Christmas before I got the present. When I finally opened it, it made me cry. On her card she had written that she wanted me to enjoy the new “toy” as she called it.

Some teachers don’t care about their students. They, like some regular workers around the world, only care about getting paid and don’t really care about the students in their charge. Mr. Trilore, a local teacher, cared... and because he cared, he wanted to get through to his charges and somehow make them understand that they could be throwing away their lives if they aren’t learning, caring, preparing and understanding the world they are entering.
