In celebration of this fall’s 25th anniversary of the Woodstock Film Festival, the Woodstock Playhouse will host the multimedia event “Ten Films That Changed America” on April 12.

Founded by real estate developer, philanthropist, and literary agent Francis J. Greenburger in 1992, Art Omi, located in in the Columbia County town of Ghent, is one of the true jewels of the Hudson Valley's many cultural attractions. Year-round, the center draws droves of visitors who marvel at its changing exhibits of enormous outdoor sculpture, the well-curated shows in its gallery/visitor center, and the work and performances of the inspiring international artists who take part in its residency programs. Set on 120 rolling acres of grassy former farmland, the not-for-profit site feels like it spreads out forever, as if it would never run out of room for all the fantastic contemporary art it displays. But as of this month the Art Omi operation is expanding—into neighboring Chatham, an eight-minute drive away, with the official groundbreaking for a game-changing new project known as Art Omi Pavilions.

“The original intention of Graveside was to open for the span of a one-year lease,” reads the website of Graveside Variety, the Woodstock pop-up arts venue opened last year by town resident and famed performer Amanda Palmer and others last year. “But the outpouring of warmth and enthusiasm from the community has made it clear how necessary this type of space is.” The venue is ending its run in June, but it’s bowing out with a bang: Its schedule for its final weeks includes a three-part series featuring Palmer in conversation with prominent authors that will take place on May 12, May 18, and June 1.

It’s not spring in the Hudson Valley without the return of Basilica Hudson’s annual 24-Hour Drone festival. The program presents a succession of cutting-edge music/art/noise makers who each create their own unique segment of a sustained drone over the span of 24 hours. This year, the heady event will take flight at the massive historic venue on May 18 and 19.
