There are certain artists who utilize their creativity in unique ways. They often merge different styles together in a fashion that's rarely been conceived before, and in turn, they create something fresh, new, and intriguing. Take Tray Wellington, for example. He has a knack for making the banjo an instrument of hip-hop while fusing it with elements of bluegrass and other styles. On Friday, Aug. 7, at River Island Art Park in Woonsocket, Wellington will perform as part of the free Levitt AMP Woonsocket Music Series.

WESTPORT — One of the up and coming exponents of the bluegrass genre is Magoo, who hail from Denver, Colorado. On Aug. 23, the group is taking the stage at the Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts. The show starts at 5 p.m. with Los Angeles blues-rock act Andy Frasco & The U.N. and Bozeman, Montana progressive roots band Kitchen Dwellers rounding out the bill.

T he Rhode Island Folk Festival is one of the last concerts of the season and its taking place on August 30 at Crescent Park in East Providence with a variety of performances will be occurring on multiple stages. The lineup includes Cranston native Mark Cutler, John Cowsill from The Cowsills, Vicki Peterson from The Bangles, the Anchors Away Brass Band, Clay Camero and many others. Another act who will be taking part is the Eugene, Oregon alt-rock singer-songwriter Tracy Bonham on the Bandshell Stage at 3pm.
