The familair 1930s city office building at 87 Nepperhan Ave. went under the wrecking ball Monday. The onetime home of the city health center, more recently host to the Parking Violations Bureau payment windows and the Building Dept., will be replaced by a new city park. Demolition is expected to take place through next week, with another month or more for hauling debris, with site restoration expected to be complete by early November. The city put the cost of the demolition at $4.9 million. Bidding on the park project is set to start in late fall, with contruction slated for early spring, 2027.

The county has extended a “boil water advisory ” for 50,000 to 70,000 residents of Southwest Yonkers . The advisory was first issued Monday following a water main break on Nepperhan Avenue. The county issued the extension sometime Tuesday, and it was reported on News12 at midday. There was no announcment from the city , although a call center operator at the city Help Line confirmed Tuesday night that the advisory had been extended, stating that the city hadn't had enough time to post the information on its website.

Fire broke out in a vacant three-story house at 53 Locust Hill Ave. at 2 a.m. Saturday. Numerous fire and emergency units responded, bringing the fire under control by 4 a.m., the Yonkers Fire Department said. There were no serious injuries.
