As counting of late-arriving mail-in ballots and other special-case votes continued, the Westchester Board of Elections reports that Wilson A. Terrero now leads Leslye A. Oquendo-Thomas by one vote, 942 to 941, in the face for the Westchester legislate Dist. 17 seat. The count ends tomorrow, with the expcted recount to begin right after. Deadline for certification is July 6.

As Yonkers and much of the eastern U.S. sweated it out with temperatures that hit 100 degrees Friday, tomorrow is expected to be more of the same, with the added twist of thunderstorms possibly hitting just in time to disrupt Independence Day celebrations.

The familair 1930s city office building at 87 Nepperhan Ave. went under the wrecking ball Monday. The onetime home of the city health center, more recently host to the Parking Violations Bureau payment windows and the Building Dept., will be replaced by a new city park. Demolition is expected to take place through next week, with another month or more for hauling debris, with site restoration expected to be complete by early November. The city put the cost of the demolition at $4.9 million. Bidding on the park project is set to start in late fall, with contruction slated for early spring, 2027.
