This week on Su Valley Voice we’re planning a safe and healthy summer. Host Trisha Costello was joined in the studio by Fire Chief Eric Chappel and Talkeetna Elementary School’s Certified Health Coach and Nutrition Expert, Aubrey Smith. Together they discussed topics ranging from fire station and emergency services news, to a recap of the recent safety fair that took place last week in Willow, and finally ways our youth can enjoy an active, healthy and safe summer vacation.

For three Japanese climbers, their Alaska dream seemed to end the day they landed in Anchorage. The climbers, known as Subaru, Genya and Tora, had three backpacks full of mountaineering gear stolen outside of their hotel as they were checking in. The team penned a handwritten note and posted it on a local climbing retail store bulletin board, asking anyone with any information about their gear to please contact them. For many teams, the theft could have ended their climbing plans.

They discussed steps families can take to prepare for a healthy school year, planned new clinic services, and the Community Celebration, which will take place at the Talkeetna Clinic on August 10th.

In this episode host Trisha Costello is joined by board members representing three area community councils: Kai Leddy with Talkeetna, Jason Kresge with Trapper Creek and Ned Sparks with Susitna. They discuss what it means to be a board member of a council in a small community, the council’s role in advocating for residents who reside within their boundaries and how the councils rely on good working relationships with Borough and State representatives to keep their communities safe, liveable and informed.
