EUGENE – The day is Sunday, May 5, 2024. Oregon baseball is hosting the Utah Utes, with Utah leading 1-0 in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Up steps Ducks freshman Maddox Molony, who watches the first ball go by. On the second pitch, Molony swings, cracking a ball deep over the left-field wall at PK Park.

The Nike Outdoor Nationals, a national competition for high school and middle school track & field athletes, took place at Hayward Field last week.

EUGENE – The Eugene Challengers, a AAA American Legion Baseball team, are back in action for summer ball. The Challengers, with five Thurston Colts on the roster, faced off with Albany's Mid-Valley Southpaws last Wednesday in a doubleheader, recording a walk-off 7-6 win after trailing the entire game.

SPRINGFIELD – Anytime a program has a coaching change, there's bound to be an adjustment period. That period gets magnified when the coaching change happens a week into the season – the way it did for the Springfield Drifters this summer.

Luke Jackson is sure to be a busy man this winter. After being announced last month as the Pleasant Hill High School boys basketball coach, the Oregon Sports Network (OSN) announced in mid-June that Jackson will be an analyst for men's basketball radio broadcasts.

CRESWELL – For the first time in its 75-year history, the National Amputee and Adaptive Golf Championships are coming to Lane County. The event, put on by the National Amputee Golf Association (NAGA), will be held at Emerald Valley Golf & Resort (EVGR) in Creswell from September 15-19.

Basketball and volleyball leagues for the spring recreation season have wrapped up play and determined champions. See league champions below.

It's a bittersweet moment for sure, but I'm excited about my next chapter as I'll be moving to the Washington, D.C. area to continue pursuing my journalism career.
