The Central Plumas Recreation and Park District announces that registration for the 2024-2025 youth basketball program opened Oct. 7.

The Feather River Land Trust invites the community to discover the magic of hiking in the Sierra Valley Preserve at night while the moon is at its fullest. An upcoming full moon hike features 4 miles of family-friendly, easy trails under a full moon and blanket of stars.

On Oct. 7, the Argentine Rock Lookout Repair Group reports volunteers completed a grueling but successful work party day hauling very heavy steel beams up the hill to the lookout. It's all for a new set of stairs that will make the lookout more accessible for everyone to enjoy.

Feather River Land Trust announces the inaugural meeting of its first-ever Nature Journaling Club.

Organizers report that Quincy Elementary School's Fall Fest, presented by the Parent Cooperative Organization, will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Quincy Elementary's Alder Campus.

Sixth grade students from Plumas Charter School experienced the annual Feather River Education week at the beginning of October, reports the school. The four-day camp, sponsored by the Plumas County Office of Education, gives students the chance to engage in hands-on learning while exploring the rich natural resources of Plumas County. FREd is part of a countywide program open to all sixth graders in Plumas County.

Eastern Plumas Health Care announces it is celebrating the award of three shelter systems thanks to the Test and Treat Equity grant from the California Department of Public Health.

The Almanor Fishing Association reports that as of Oct. 9, the lake level at Lake Almanor continues to drop and currently sits at 4,485 feet. Water temperatures are running in the low 60s and trending downward as the days get shorter.

Plumas District Hospital announces that the Association of California Healthcare Districts recently honored three distinguished leaders in healthcare during its 72nd annual meeting, themed “Building Bridges Together, Cultivating Positive Connections.” The CEO of the Year award was presented to JoDee Read, PDH CEO.
