The Beckwourth Peak Fire Prevention District has announced that property owners within the district who are low income or own agricultural property contiguous to the district can be considered for exemptions from the district special fire tax, approved by voters during the November 2023 general election.

The Feather River Co-op board announced its Breakfast with the Board, Dec. 7, at the new Dragonfly Café, 461 Main St., Quincy. The hour-long breakfast meeting begins at 9 a.m., with doors opening at 8:50 a.m.

Plumas Fire Safe Council's underburn cooperative and Feather River Adult School will host a beginning wildland fire course, known as the Basic 32. The course will be held Feb. 22 and 23 and March 1 and 2, 2025.

Christmas tree permits are available at Plumas National Forest's local ranger district offices or at Recreation.gov . Permits are $10 and are nonrefundable.

Volunteers at White Sulphur Springs Ranch hosted third graders from Quincy Elementary and C. Roy Carmichael Elementary in Portola at the historical ranch site in Clio. Students from Quincy toured the site Oct. 23, followed the next day by. C. Roy Carmichael students.

In partnership with local stakeholders and Taylorsville residents, Sierra Institute and the Taylorsville Firewise Committee announced completion of the Taylorsville Community Defense Zone project. The Sierra Nevada Conservancy and California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection funded the project to increase fire resilience and protect the Taylorsville community against the growing threat of wildfires.

It's not too late to register for the 2024 5-kilometer Turkey Trot, scheduled for Nov. 28. The race starts at 9 a.m. in the Feather River College Sports Complex parking lot. The entry fee is $25.

The Feather River Food Co-op Board of Directors plans to discuss adding Women, Infants and Children benefits to its business model at the Dec. 7, Breakfast with the Board meeting.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife seeks data and public comment on a petition to list the western burrowing owl under the California Endangered Species Act. The deadline for submission is Feb. 15, 2025.

Caltrans District 2 reports that State Route 70 through the Feather River Canyon will reopen without traffic controls Nov. 27 at 3 p.m. through the holiday weekend.
