40 years ago, my good friend Tim Sherrod asked me to make a road trip with him to see the Indianapolis 500. Both of us being college students at Valdosta State with little to hold us down, I said "why not!"

During the lazy hazy days of summer, it’s hard not to think about all of the stuff we used to do during the long summer days of our youth.

The last three years I have been a part of an effort to honor my good friend Tommy Griffin, who passed away early in 2020. Basically a lifelong friend and cohort-in-crime, Tommy was a well-known area musician whose passion for performing influenced several generations of young people here in Thomasville, and also through the many events for which he provided sound and/or lights through his production company.

Some years back, I had the opportunity to talk football with the legendary voice of the Georgia Bulldogs Larry Munson. During the conversation, he wanted to talk about high school football here in our home.

All of the advances in technology that we see every day in the media have indelibly changed many aspects of our day-to-day living, including our local high school football coverage.

It’s finally here - the most wonderful time of the year has officially arrived. No, not the holidays - even though Halloween is still two months away and stores have inexplicably already started putting their Christmas stuff out (seriously). To be clear, what I am referring to is the beginning of the college football season.

THOMASVILLE- During each home game during the 2024 football season, the Thomas County School System will recognize the first class of inductees into the new Thomas County Schools Sports Hall of Fame, which honors significant athletes, coaches, and contributors to the unique tradition of sports in our county.

Just like you, again I sat with my heart breaking and my soul aching with yet another school shooting this past week. With many local connections, this one hit way too close to home.
