The crash, which left just two of the 181 people on board alive, is the deadliest aviation disaster in South Korea since a Korean Airlines Boeing 747 crashed in Guam in 1997.

The app, set to launch in January, allows illegal immigrants to alert family members and the nearest Mexican consulate if they are about to be detained by US authorities.

Special Agent Lionel Myrthil did not elaborate on how the new information may explain a motive for the attack.

The suspect, identified as Jose Carranza-Escobar, who the police describe as a “transient with a last known address in Azusa,” was found standing near the flames.
