I have followed the comments and proposals of a particular advisor to the POTUS (2025-). I heard the man say that we, the US, should not give aid to foreign countries (or the people in them) unless we, the US, get something out of it. No giving aid just out of compassion.
I was teaching theology at Bethel College and Seminary (now Bethel University) in Minnesota. The announcement went out to the whole community that Surgeon General C. Everett Koop would speak in convocation-chapel on a particular day. I attended somewhat reluctantly because I assumed he would speak about the evils of smoking. Koop was a major enemy of tobacco and was on a campaign to regulate it and stop children and young people from smoking. Koop was also an evangelical Christian. He was a well-known pediatrician, scholar and author. He was a tall, dignified gentleman with a commanding presence and voice.

Here I only want to tell a story and briefly interpret it. The story is about the planets Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. (Yes, I know that Pluto has been demoted to a “dwarf planet” by the leading astronomical society. Some astronomers still consider it a planet. Whether it is or not is not relevant to the story.)
Why am I leading this discussion about such a densely philosophical book? First, I must say I have read even more densely philosophical books!
