The NY SMART I-Corridor , a consortium of partners from Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo, is one of just 12 groups to receive a federal Tech Hub award and the only Tech Hub focused the semiconductor industry. The federal government saw local leaders' strategy and existing regional assets and determined the NY SMART I-Corridor region has what it takes to be the next globally critical semiconductor industry hub. To support this growth, the federal government awarded the NY SMART I-Corridor Tech Hub more than $40 million for initiatives and projects that will help us grow and ensure all residents have access to opportunity. From refugee to U.S. Army Reservist. Our guest on this edition of Our New Neighbors is Augustine Wait. Augustine's parents fled Bhutan in the midst of civil war when they were just children. Augustine was born in a refugee camp in Thailand and lived there until age 11, when her family was able to migrate to the United States. Once settled in Central New York, she graduated from Henninger High School, attended Onondaga Community College and Cortland State, and since then has joined the U.S. Army Reserve, where she is a sergeant and logistics expert. Rockwell Elementary School in the Onondaga Central School District launched a Community Garden Project to introduce young students to diverse cultures through gardening and agriculture. Over five weeks, children explored Mexican/Spanish, Native American, and African-American food cultures. The program was composed primarily of incoming Kindergarten students, helping the school's youngest children develop a sense of pride and belonging in the school community from their earliest experience.
