A request to rezone property on Coffeen Avenue was an item of consideration at Monday night's Sheridan City Council meeting. Sheridan Media's Ron Richter has the details.

A resolution to vacate a 10-foot by 54-foot wide utility easement on lot three of the Huntington-Birch Addition, located at 1297 Birch Street was approved by the Sheridan City Council at their recent business meeting. City Planner Kelly Schroeder said the applicant, Austin Opitz, requested the easement vacation for the purpose of building a detached shop at the rear of the property.

A public hearing was held at the recent Sheridan City Council meeting on an application from La Herradura in Sheridan for a new restaurant liquor license. City Clerk Ashlee Foster said the liquor license request was a logistical issue.

Following a thorough application and interview process, the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce announced the hiring of longtime Chamber employee Teresa Detimore as the organization's new CEO, effective February 1, 2025. Detimore said that she has a passion for the business community and the work that the Chamber is doing.

A resolution adopting the Sheridan Fire Rescue Long Range Master Plan was an item of discussion at Monday night's Sheridan City Council study session. Fire Chief Gary Harnish addressed the governing body about the master plan.

An ordinance establishing proposed changes and amendments to the M-1 zoning district and the creation of a M-2 zoning district within the City of Sheridan was tabled by the Sheridan City Council at their October 21 business meeting. The ordinance was tabled to allow more time for public involvement. City Planner Kelly Schroeder said that the City hosted a M1/M2 open house in December so that the public could learn more about the history of the M1 zoning and proposed changes. The City of Sheridan may be applying for a federal grant for the purchase of a new fire apparatus for the Sheridan Fire-Rescue Department.
