Despite consistent rainfall from Tropical Storm Debby, roadways east of I-95 have avoided any major closures.

A suspected tornado touched down in the early hours Thursday in Greene County, causing damage just northwest of Snow Hill. The tornado touched down around 2:30 AM, striking five homes and two farms in the process.

Aldermen Bob Brinson resigned from the city's governing board on July 30 to fill Republican Sen. Jim Perry's vacancy in the state Senate. The League of Women Voters of Carteret County is set to host its annual WOmen in Excellence Reception on Thursday. The event celebrates Women's Equality Day, commemorating the 19th Amendment which granted women the right to vote, and honors women leaders'contributions to the community.

In July, County Attorney Arey Grady displayed an example map of a new gun range facility that would comply with the proposed ordinance. This included 20-foot tall berms and fencing surrounding the facility — requirements that current gun range operators said were costly and unnecessary. These requirements have been removed in the revised ordinance that up for consideration on September 3.
