Borough Mayor Rodney Dial on Friday said he doesn’t plan to veto a supplemental funding package for the Ketchikan School District ahead of Monday’s meeting of the Ketchikan Gateway Borough Assembly, which will make for a comparatively light meeting agenda.

The Ketchikan Gateway Borough Assembly on Monday showed interest in a proposal to allow older non-commercial vehicles to be permanently registered with the state, voting 6-0 to advance the ordinance and consider it in second reading on Aug. 19. (Assembly Member Grant EchoHawk was absent from Monday’s meeting.)

Former Ketchikan School Board President Bridget Mattson on Monday filed as a candidate for the Ketchikan Gateway Borough Assembly, joining incumbent Assembly Member Jaimie Palmer in the race for the two three-year seats that are up for election this year.

The Ketchikan School Board on Wednesday unanimously upheld the superintendent's decision to retain Elana Arnold's book "What Girls Are Made Of" at the Ketchikan High School library, and encouraged the public to file paperwork to run for the School Board in October.

With two days until the filing deadline, just two people had filed as candidates for the three open three-year seats on the Ketchikan School Board as of Thursday night, making for an uncontested race and a possible unfilled seat after the election.

In the days since Sunday's landslide, Ketchikan Gateway Borough Mayor Rodney Dial has been a familiar face around the community and in some news coverage of the following events. But instead of his usual jeans and Ketchikan Gateway Borough fleece, he's been wearing khaki military fatigues. Why?

Ketchikan's local Emergency Operations Center is looking to wind down by the end of this week as recovery duties from the Aug. 25 landslide transition to municipal officials, the emergency operations manager said on Monday.
