The month of August is best known as the month where all children go back to school in order to learn something new. I too decided that I wanted to learn something new and picked up a book I thought would be most fitting, because who doesn’t want to learn how to solve a murder?

Well, September is here at last. The weather finally seems to be cooling off in Texas, and everyone on the internet is pulling out their Halloween and fall decorations. For me, there couldn’t be a more perfect time to read a crime fiction, Stephen King novel; although, is there ever a time that isn’t perfect for that?

Each night as I climb into bed, I lean over to my nightstand to decide what book to read for the evening. While the stack of books feels like it continues to grow larger every day, I keep finding myself reaching for fantasy romance novels. There is something comforting about the different worlds available to me — they have everything from dragon riding to evil princes and vampires to werewolves. There isn’t a stone unturned, and I love every second of it.

It feels almost impossible to believe we are already at the end of the year. Holiday plans are the talk of the office, with the promise of leave just around the corner. Intentions and goals for 2025 are the talk of the internet, with everyone reflecting honestly on how this year went.
