CHINO VALLEY, Ariz. (July 25, 2024) – Remediation of an accidental underground fuel release at the Chino Valley Circle K continues along with weekly testing of samples taken from the drinking water aquifer. More than six months after Circle K discovered the fuel release, test results continue to show no evidence of contamination to the drinking water aquifer. Weekly testing has been underway since late February, when environmental contractors began drawing water from private wells located on properties adjacent to the Circle K location. In May, the company also began bi-weekly testing of four monitoring wells drilled closer to the store to enable earlier detection of potential contamination. As the company obtains test results, it continues to share them periodically with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ). Meanwhile, two soil vapor extraction systems are operating on site to remediate the impacts of the fuel release. Circle K is committed to keeping the community regularly informed, including providing timely notification of any changes in test results that warrant additional actions and precautions. Barring any such developments, the company will continue to share updates on testing and remediation with the city and public every two months as the work continues.
