Kremsmünster, Austria – Greiner is making a further investment in MATR, a start-up aiming to supply hotels with sustainable mattresses that can be refurbished, reused or recycled at the end of their useful service life. Greiner Innoventures, the company's start-up hub, has supported MATR and its founders, Verena Judmayer and Michaela Stephen, from the beginning of their business two years ago.

Vienna, Austria – Foam manufacturer Neveon is to close two production sites and an administrative location in Germany. Its Dörfles-Esbach and Nürtingen sites are unaffected.

Trelleborg, Sweden – Trelleborg has reported net sales for the third quarter of SEK8.44bn ($795m). This was flat compared to the same quarter in 2023 when it achieved SEK846bn. Organic sales were up by 1%, the company said, with a further 2% increase arising from structural changes. However, this was offset by currency effects, which gave a 3% decline.

Virginia, US – Casper Sleep is to become a subsidiary of Carpenter. The vertically integrated PU foam specialist said it will assist Casper on a comprehensive growth and profitability strategy, as well as appropriate future channels to market. No further details are currently available.

Brussels, Belgium – Recticel has posted an 18% increase in sales in the third quarter of 2024, rising from €132m in the 2023 quarter to €157m this year. On an organic basis, net sales rose by 6%, despite lower raw material costs and continued price pressures arising from overcapacity and low construction activity in western Europe.

Herzogenaurach, Germany – Adidas has reported a spike in sales, rising from €6.00bn in the third quarter of 2023 to €6.44bn in this year's quarter. On a currency-neutral basis, the growth was 10%. This, the company said, was driven by 14% growth for the Adidas brand in the quarter.

Québec, Canada – Wire screen manufacturer Major has introduced a new polyurethane strip for its Flex-Mat Modular series of screens. This, the company said, increases the durability of the screen media, improving both the effectiveness and lifespan of the screens in wet and corrosive conditions.

Texas, US – Revenues were up at Huntsman in the third quarter, rising from $1.51bn in the 2023 quarter to $1.54bn this year, an increase of 2.3%. However, it slipped to a net loss of $33m in the quarter, compared to a net income of $0 in last year's quarter; on an adjusted basis, net income was $17m. Adjusted EBITDA was down 3.7%, from $136m last year to $131m this.

Kingscourt, Ireland – Kingspan has reported a 3% increase in sales for the nine months to the end of September, which increased to €6.35bn year-on-year. However, before currency effects and acquisitions, they were down 4%. For the third quarter, the increase in total sales was 6%, while they were flat against the third quarter last year when currency and acquisitions are disregarded.

Kentucky, US – Sales were up 1.8% in the third quarter at Tempur Sealy, rising to $1.30bn from $1.28bn in the same quarter last year. Net income of $130m in the quarter represented a 10.2% increase on the $113m achieved in the 2023 quarter.
