On Sunday, Aug. 25, the congregation of Faith Baptist Church in Spring Hill participated in a groundbreaking ceremony. Almost all of the 150 church members, from the youngest to the most senior, had an opportunity to scoop up a shovelful of dirt at the site of the future Family Life Pavilion.
Most community theaters stick with tried and true comedies and musicals with an occasional murder mystery drama thrown in. However, Stage West isn’t afraid to “think outside the box” and produce serious plays with adult language and sometimes controversial subjects. “The Shadow Box” is such a play.

Many of us are connected to suicide in one way or the other. Perhaps it was a close relative, a friend, or a spouse. Maybe we, ourselves, have thought about suicide when it seemed like the only way out of a dark place we’re in. The fortunate, if that’s the correct word to use, are those who have not followed through with the act and have gotten help−those who have come to the realization that suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

Please excuse the pun, but the Marine Corps League’s Haunted Trail is “horror-ible,” as well as “terror-ible”—and that’s as it should be. This is the Marine Corps League Detachment 708’s fourth year constructing a spooky trail on the back of their property on Sunshine Grove Road.

According to Kerry (K.O.) Smith, his grandfather, “Wardy” Smith, never wanted accolades while he was alive. Therefore, it’s fitting that fifty-four years after his death, the city of Brooksville bestowed this honor on Smith. Wardy joins the ranks of such illustrious citizens as Alfred A. McKethan, Virginia M. Jackson, and last year’s recipient, Barbara Manuel−who have all been named Great Brooksvillians because of their significant contributions to our community.
