Two defendants charged with tampering with a deceased body and concealing a death in the case of a man found dead at Lake Christine outside of Basalt were in court for hearings on Tuesday. The prosecutor indicated a plea arrangement is in the works for at least one of the defendants.

The Federal Aviation Administration provided clarification on issues in May that reinforced Pitkin County officials’ direction that they shouldn’t jeopardize federal funding over an airport improvement plan. But the citizens’ organization Aspen Fly Right is urging the county to avoid that “trap.”

Politics isn’t always simple. A group is collecting signatures with the goal of forcing a ballot question in November that would propose an amendment to the Pitkin County Home Rule Charter. The amendment, if approved, would require a vote if Pitkin County wants to relocate or expand the airport runway from conditions that existed on Jan. 1, 2024.
