Durango isn't the first place I've moved to sights (mostly) unseen. Other than Fort Lewis College, snowboarding and a cheapish cost of living relative to my other stops in Colorado, I came to town with an abundance of ignorance and an empty stomach.
Seeing as Durango skipped spring and went straight into summer, now is probably a good time to fire up the grill.

Everything is on the menu this week in Durango as the Wine Experience returns with seminars, tastings, pairings, fine dining, spirits, small businesses and, of course, people in fancy clothes drinking a lot of wine. While not much has changed with the format, the event partners rotate and so do the seminars and showcases associated with the experience.
After a little more than six months in town, I finally got around to a couple of Durango's biggest pastimes – biking and craft beer – last weekend for the inaugural, unsponsored and one-man Durango Beer and Bike Tour-ery. I decided to take those city mainstays and combine them with one of my own, offsetting exercise with beer consumption, and bike to all six local breweries that showed up on Google maps.

It's becoming increasingly impossible to talk about food without mentioning food cost.
The conundrum of any craft beer bartender is the patron who walks in and asks, “What do you have similar to a Coors Light?” It's akin to asking a booker at a punk rock venue if they have something in the vein of Milli Vanilli. The request is so asinine, so antithetical to everything that is craft beer that you bury the idea deep down, hoping to never see it again.

There's an expectation to celebrate America and Colorado with pride and happiness on their respective milestone birthdays. What's difficult is trying to prop up the food that's defined my experience because it runs in contrast to the typical Americana you see everyone shoving in their faces on the Fourth.
