Anthony Joshua is no longer a heavyweight titlist, but he remains one of the top draws in all of boxing. The man is extremely entertaining in the ring. More often than not, the towering Londoner delivers action. That’s why fans would love to see Joshua battle fellow former heavyweight titlist Tyson Fury in the near future. A Joshua-Fury match might not be the relevant battle fans have longed for over the years…then again, it just might be. Fury, after all, is battling Oleksandr Usyk later this month. Should he win the rematch against the brilliant Usyk, Fury will be a world titlist yet again.

Things haven’t been great for former world titlist Anthony Joshua these past few years. While the man bulldozed through UFC star Francis Ngannou last March, the truth is that the towering Englishman has lost three major fights since 2021. Two of those fights were against the now legendary Olekdandr Usyk, the closest thing boxing currently has to a chess master. Joshua’s last bout, which went down this past September, however, saw him get crushed by Daniel Dubois, a talented fighter, no doubt, but not one people were apt to think could beat Joshua. It’s understandable that some might feel the 35 year old Joshua’s best days are now behind him.

Popular welterweight Alexis Rocha threw down with Raul Curiel in a scheduled 12 rounder Saturday night in a main event broadcast live by DAZN. A ranked contender fighting under the Golden Boy promotional banner, the 25-2 Rocha had a lot on the line as he answered the bell to face his 15-0 opponent. Having bested all but two of his previous opponents, however, the undefeated Curiel had a lot on the line himself.

Jaime Munguia returned to the ring in his native Mexico Saturday night, as he faced the widely unknown Bruno Surace in an ESPN main event. The 10 round super middleweight affair against the 25-0-2 Surace was seen as a something of a stay busy fight for the popular 44-1 Munguia. Marseille’s Surace, however, clearly had plans of upsetting the figurative apple cart.

“I’ve not spoke to Paris in three months,” former heavyweight titlist Tyson Fury recently told TNT Sports in an interview. “Not a word.” Paris, for those who don’t know, is Fury’s wife, as well as the mother of his children. “I don’t miss ’em,”Fury said of his family, claiming that – although he loves his family – he’s made himself able to separate the boxing life from family life. And, with his rematch with titlist Oleksandr Usyk going down this Saturday, the focus has to be on the sweet science. Of course, Fury has said surprising things before and it’s sometimes hard to tell how serious the man is regarding some of the things he says.

One of the best things about being a fight fan is being able to look at the up and comers. Indeed, the sport of boxing is as much about the future as it is the present. Boxing Insider Promotions has, in just a few short years, made it’s mark on the rising fight scene, both in Manhattan as well as in Atlantic City. The promotional outlet kept the momentum going Tuesday night in the heart of midtown when Holiday Fight Night III went down at Sony Hall in Times’ Square. Sure enough, fans were treated to a full six fight card.

“I’m going to dish out a whole lot of pain,” Tyson Fury said during the final press conference before his Saturday rematch against WBA, WBO and WBC heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. “I’ve got nothing to say far from there’s going to be a lot of hurt and pain in this fight, you watch. That’s all I’ve got to say.” And that pretty much literally was all Fury had to say. After losing the first fight to Usyk by the slimmest of margins, the frequently bombastic Fury was far more serious on Thursday than he often is.

I’ll be frank – this is one of the hardest calls I’ve had to make in my ten plus years of writing about boxing. The truth is that the first Tyson Fury-Oleksandr Usyk battle was so close – so completely back and fourth – that it’s hard to decide which man is more likely to win tomorrow’s rematch in Saudi Arabia. While it’s true Usyk won the first battle between these two future Hall of Famers last May, and won it fairly in my opinion, there were moments in the fight where Fury was simply dominating his man. The same, of course, can be said of Usyk who walked out of the ring in Saudi Arabia that evening the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

By the time the towering Englishman reached the ring, however, Carey’s vocals had been replaced by the music of Biggie Smalls. It was all, to be sure, classic Fury. The former heavyweight titlist, however, wasn’t in Riyadh for a concert. He was there to win a battle for heavyweight dominance against the only man to ever beat him in the ring – WBO, WBC, and WBA heavyweight titlist Oleksandr Usyk.
