BNZ has signed a supply agreement with Sungrow for 240 MWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS) to be installed at two operational solar plants in Italy.

The PosHYdon pilot has produced green hydrogen offshore in the North Sea, while new waste-to-hydrogen, electrolyzer and hydrogen corridor projects advance across Europe and South Korea. The developments highlight growing investment in renewable hydrogen production, infrastructure and localized supply chains.

Axpo has signed a 10-year tolling agreement with Zelestra for a 207 MW/830 MWh battery energy storage project in northeastern Italy.

Chinese company State Power Investment Corp set a global record for the largest single-batch export of green ammonia, shipping 3,750 tonnes of green ammonia to South Korea.

The Spanish government has allocated €274.2 million for four renewable hydrogen projects with a combined electrolysis capacity of 102.27 MW, while the European Commission has approved a €780 million Dutch scheme to support renewable hydrogen production.

In other news, the Schleswig-Holstein Ministry of Energy Transition reportedly confirmed the cancellation of the 2.1 GW HyScale 100 electrolyzer project at a German refinery, with a lack of planning certainty cited among the reasons. Power to Hydrogen has begun installing a 500 kW AEM electrolyzer in Antwerp, while Hystar and BHEL are partnering on local PEM electrolyzer manufacturing in India, and Italy has launched a €400 million annual renewable hydrogen support scheme.

Researchers in Italy are testing different crops, panel configurations, and shading levels to identify the most suitable combinations for agrivoltaic production. They found that agrivoltaic systems can lower soil temperatures by more than 20 C, potentially helping crops cope with heat and water stress in Mediterranean climates.

The European Commission has opened the door for Member States to use national escape-clause flexibility to finance energy security and fossil-fuel transition measures in 2026–2028. Eligible investments include renewables, batteries and energy storage, heat pumps, EV charging infrastructure and building renovations, subject to strict budgetary ceilings and eligibility criteria.

In other news, Egyptian researchers developed new catalysts for hydrogen production from plastic waste. Asahi Kasei, Perdaman, and Sunfire also advanced electrolysis projects in Japan, Australia, and Germany.

Cbm-Tech has launched a green hydrogen hub in Walvis Bay combining 5 MW of solar, a 5 MW PEM electrolyzer and 5.9 MWh of battery storage.
