They Might Be Giants brought The Bigger Show Tour into their home base of Brooklyn on Thursday night, May 28th, to kick off a three-night stand at Brooklyn Steel. The first show was the only non-sold out night of the run, as the diverse crowd filled in as the band went on promptly at 8pm.

The ninth studio album from the alt-rock/folk outfit Deer Tick is inspired by their hometown of Providence, RI. The group dug into the city’s shady past and crafted musical tales based on gangsters, religion and the immigrant experience, as the wide-ranging record finds Deer Tick at their most creative.

The collaborative group Fantastic Cat were completely revved up and ready to go for the first of two sold-out shows at the Mercury Lounge on Friday night, June 6th. While the hypnotic spiral ‘cat out of hell’ design spun onstage, no trickery was needed, as the outfit delivered a set of original gems that kept the band fully locked in.

For fans of the off-kilter, psychedelic rock world of Les Claypool, his current Claypool Gold tour is a dream, as three of his projects are touring together, making magic each night they take the stage. On a hot, sweaty Friday evening, June 12th, at SPAC in Saratoga Springs, NY, the musical circus arrived and dealt with suffocating, sticky conditions throughout the show.

Following up on their expansive 2024 double album Stung!, the Western Australia-based psychedelic rock outfit Pond wanted to tighten things up. The result is the much more focused Terrestrials, a collection of synth-heavy rockers that shine with a neon gleam.

After their fluke hit “Pepper”, off 1996’s Electric Larryland, Butthole Surfers label, Capitol Records, wanted a follow-up. The band submitted After the Astronaut, but at the eleventh hour (with promotional copies already out), the label killed the album. Then, in 2001, on a new label, a revamped version titled Weird Revolution appeared. It went nowhere, and that was pretty much the end of the Butthole Surfers. Now the original record, shelved years ago, arrives.

The multi-faceted artist Lara Downes has spent the last two years traveling throughout the USA, searching for what it means to be American today. One piece from that search is the (mostly) solo classical piano offering Hold These Truths, which finds Downes covering various composers of the past and present in her own unique style.

Following up on his surprise success, 2024’s raw, hard-rocking No Name, Jack White toured the world, delivering fiery performances with a tight band. He decided to take that group into Third Man Nashville’s studio to record this blazing follow-up, his seventh solo effort, Frozen Charlotte.

The NYC-based post-hardcore collective Show Me The Body blast out of speakers, growing with confidence, power, and adulthood as Alone Together finds the band crafting a cohesive full-length that focuses on their strengths as a fearless unit.

On a hot, humid summer evening in July, Rumsey Playfield in the heart of NYC’s Central Park welcomed a trio of indie groups for a night of rock as Spoon, Ratboys, and Bodega played a free show.
