After having several internships during her college career, communication graduate Rakiyah Lenon believes she is prepared for her future career and the internships have brought her closer to the local community.

Tadd Patton, PhD, an associate professor of experimental psychology, was recently named the new chair of the Department of Psychological Sciences at Augusta University.

“Making art in general has been very therapeutic for me," said Edna Martinez, a former Marine now art grad. "It's not just a passion anymore. It's become a necessity.”

“When I first saw samples of Brigid's work, it was evident that she had a strong eye for detail, but it has been exciting to watch her develop as an artist," said Cyndy Epps.

Dozens of local artists, including several with ties to Augusta University, participated in the 5th Street Mural Project, sponsored by the Greater Augusta Arts Council.

After serving as a U.S. Marine, Edna Martinez turned to Augusta University to find happiness and a new career with an art degree.

Edna Martinez is not your typical art major at Augusta University. Born in Mexico, her family moved to Las Vegas when she was 3 years old.

“It is so cool to see something that I didn't think I could make a career out of, be something that I'm very passionate in now. It’s my future.”
