After a statement from York County Tuesday, it appears that Silfab Solar will be allowed to go ahead with its $150 million dollar manufacturing plans in Fort Mill. Its been a back and forth two months of public comments between residents and Silfab itself. In a detailed release by the County, they document the process of the initial zoning to the events recently in May that include the County Zoning Board of Appeals unanimously voting that solar panel manufacturing should not be allowed for light industrial. However, that decision did not apply to Silfab. Residents have shown up to multiple meetings voicing their disdain that included traffic and environmental concerns for the project. Silfab plans to bring 800 new jobs with the investment. According to the county, many of the public's issues on Silfab is “misinformation.” Even with the appeals board vote, the County said that decision will not trump a zoning verification letter that was sent in December of 2022. The County continued by saying “the letter gave Silfab the legal right to develop the property for its intended purpose and can't be jeopardized by later requests for zoning interpretations from opponents of those projects. The zoning decision only applies to future business.

Tony Breeden got nearly 52% of the vote defeating Michael Belk for York County Sheriff on Tuesday. With 100 percent of the county precincts reporting, Breeden got 8,919 votes to 8259 for Belk. Only 17,000 plus people voted in the runoff. Breeden is a former lieutenant with the Rock Hill Police and will take over for current Sheriff Kevin Tolson in 2025.
