Adam Grimm, of Elyria, Ohio, and current South Dakota resident, won his third Federal Duck Stamp Art Contest. His acrylic painting of a pair of spectacled eiders, large ducks known for their brightly colored bills and white spectacle-like eye patches, won from a group of 239 entries.

Join Cunningham Falls State Park staff for an easy-to-moderate one-mile round-trip hike to learn about the geology of the park. Find out what kind of rocks can be found. There will be fossils and example rocks to examine. The “Geology Rocks!” walk is from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 14 and participants will meet at the Houck Nature Center, 14274 William Houck Drive in the park at Thurmont.
