As meteorological autumn begins, Central England Temperature data reveals 2025's summer challenging 1976's record, while unsettled conditions dominate the forecast for the week ahead.

Storm Bram sweeps in from the Atlantic bringing severe gales and heavy rain through Tuesday. An amber warning is in force for NW Scotland with gusts up to 90mph. Flooding likely on already saturated ground, yet it stays unseasonably mild with temperatures reaching 16C in places.

Atlantic weather systems continue to dominate, bringing further spells of heavy rain to the north and west through Sunday and Monday. Amber warnings are in force for Cumbria and South Wales, with flooding and disruption likely in places.

High pressure building over Scandinavia will bring a drier but increasingly cold run-up to Christmas. Don't expect a 'Beast from the East', but an east to north-easterly flow will make it feel quite raw, with frost becoming more widespread.

High pressure anchored to the north-west keeps things mainly dry but cold through to New Year's Eve, with patchy frost and fog in places. After that, Arctic air moves in bringing a wintry start to 2026 with snow, ice and sharp frosts.

Met Office warnings for snow and ice remain in force across much of the UK, with travel disruption likely over the coming days. And there could be worse to come, with gales, rain and snow threatening severe conditions on Friday.
