Pfc. Gerald J. Bell and Pvt. August “Jeff” Bender, members of Company A, 194th Tank Battalion, were killed in combat on Dec. 26, 1941. They volunteered to stay behind to give others a chance.
Pvt. Duane Payne was wounded and reported missing in action on Oct. 9, 1944, in Alsdorf, Germany. On Sept. 11, he will be buried in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery.
