Over the last few weeks, I've camped or visited with several fellow travelers who rave about the current conditions for traveling throughout northern California.

Here’s a list of some of our favorite summer destinations, involving lakes, water sports, and activities with crystal waters and cool, starry nights.

We dined recently in Stockton, at Garlic Brothers restaurant, and gazed at the beautiful sunset over those twin peaks shimmering in the distance: Mt. Diablo. We’re always surprised at how many friends have not explored this lovely park – the reward at the end of a scenic daytrip. Come along for creative exploring between Stockton and the “wild East Bay!"

I was raised in a family with three boys and parents who would take us on frequent expeditions from our home in Ohio to the East Coast.

Here you will find a wealth of shorebirds, sea lions, quaint towns and vistas set among the coastal mountains and, just inland, redwood forests.

Last week we took you on a tour up California’s near North Coast, Bodega Bay up Highway 1 through Jenner, Fort Ross, and north onto Mendocino.

The Olympic Peninsula is popular year-round, with lofty peaks, rainforest and wild coast combining to create a spectacular wilderness park.

Friends and family have compelled me to collect their suggestions and my own, with the idea of a “stay-cation.”

San Joaquin County includes world class destinations, institutions and museums; scores of other wonders lie just hours away.
