The current state of the Vista Theatre is coming along, but still has a ways to go.

Former Brookville-Timberlake Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief Jerry Womack passed away Saturday, July 25, at his home in Lynchburg. On Saturday, August 1, family, friends, fellow firefighters, and fire responders from across Central Virginia gathered to honor his life and legacy.

On Tuesday, August 4 from 5 to 9 p.m., English Park was the place to be when Altavista Police Department hosted the 2026 National Night Out. This event offered free food, free music, fireworks, and a great time for the community to come together. Even with rain in the forecast the crowd was great. It was a wonderful evening to spend time with family, friends, and neighbors. Thanks to all the businesses, groups, and organizations that took part in this special night. This was a fantastic family event with something for everyone. The kids had inflatables, face painting, games, and so much more.

Staunton River hosted Altavista for a volleyball scrimmage Aug. 18, with the Golden Eagles falling to the Colonels in five sets.

On Friday, August 14, Campbell County Public Library and Altavista on Track hosted the 7th Annual Altavista Block Party. The event was free with activities inside and out. They included face painting, balloon twisting, bracelet making, shark sprinkler, and chalk painting. This was held at Staunton River Memorial Library in Altavista.

On Saturday, August 15, Woodruff Power Wheel Racing held its third race of the season at Altavista Combined School. The parking lot was made to look like a dragstrip. The weather was hot, but the racers battled the heat doing what they love the most. Racers ranged from ages 8 months to 8 years old. This program was created with the goal of giving children of all ages an opportunity to participate.

Staunton River opened its varsity volleyball season with a three-set victory over Pulaski on Monday, Aug. 24, as the Golden Eagles hosted the Cougars.
