High pressure will build into the area today giving us a nice start to the work week.
Our Tuesday will be a gray, dreary day with some occasional snow showers and icy mix/freezing drizzle possible throughout the day as weak low pressure passes to our south.
Lingering light sleet and freezing rain over inland and northern locales this morning will change to all rain from south to north by mid-morning or so as warmer air moves in... pushing temperatures above the freezing mark. Icy roads will be possible through mid-morning... improving from south to north as temperatures warm. Rain will spread across the state this morning and will be heavy at times this afternoon and evening. Light winds to start the day will become south/southeasterly and increase to 10-20 MPH this afternoon with gusts to 35-45 MPH possible by later this afternoon. Rain will be heavy at times tonight as low pressure pushes a cold front through the region. Rain will taper off from west to east across the state after midnight with the rain completely exiting the area by daybreak Thursday. We'll start the night very mild with temperatures in the upper 40s to mid-50s then falling to the 30s to near 40° late as colder air moves in behind the departing cold front. As the colder air moves in... the rain may change to some snow showers before ending over far western and northwestern parts of the state.
A strong cold front will push to our east early this morning taking any lingering rain and snow showers with it.
Rain will taper off from west to east across the state by mid-morning followed by clouds giving way to brightening skies by late morning through the afternoon.
The daylight hours will be dry followed by light snow or possibly some mixed rain and snow developing towards evening first for areas north and west of Bangor then spreading south and east across the rest of the state later this evening into the night tonight.
We may see a few snow showers in spots mainly early this morning otherwise expect morning clouds to give way to partly to mostly sunny skies by late morning into the afternoon.
Plan on a chilly day with highs in the 20s to near 30°... warmest along the coast.
After a frigid start to the day... temperatures will climb to the teens to near 20° north and upper teens to mid-20s closer to the coast for highs this afternoon.
BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Snow will continue this morning as low pressure approaches from the Eastern Great Lakes Region. The low will pass through Central New England this morning then just to our south this afternoon. Expect the snow to taper off from northwest to southeast this morning with most areas done by noontime... however... snow is expected to continue into the early to mid-afternoon hours across Hancock and Washington County. Storm total snowfall will range from 2”-5” for most of the state with slightly higher amounts between 4”-8” expected over Hancock and Washington Counties. Some breaks of sunshine will be possible this afternoon otherwise expect mostly cloudy skies. Highs will reach the 20s to near 30° this afternoon. We'll see partly cloudy skies tonight with lows mainly in the teens.
