We can only hope for a bit of a reprieve from campaign phone calls until October. In Utah, where we operate on a one-party system like communist China, the Republican primary is often the election that determines the results. In Summit County, which is a kind of bizzarro world, it’s the Democratic primary that matters.

The Fourth of July seems a little more important this year. It’s one thing to celebrate the founding of our nation by eating hot dogs and potato salad that has been out of the fridge a little too long in the heat. It’s another to really contemplate the mess we are in as a country.
